Garden Club Greenhouse

The Garden Club of Sun City offers a professionally designed and constructed greenhouse to benefit Sun City residents. Use is available to anyone with a valid RCSC and Garden Club membership with operation overseen by a volunteer committee described in the Club’s Rules and Regulations. The greenhouse is located in the Grand Center at 10415 Grand Ave. with entry through the Garden Club office in the westernmost end of the building.

The mission of the Greenhouse is to offer Sun City residents, through Garden Club membership, equitable and effective access to desert greenhouse gardening. The greenhouse currently offers an environment for starting and growing soil-based or hydroponic vegetables and specialty floral varieties. Potting tables and supplies, heat mats and grow lamps are available to start your soil-based seeds as are various pots for potting-up your plants once established. Soil-based transplants typically find their way to home or community gardens at the beginning of planting season.

Hydroponic gardeners grow their leafy greens (lettuce and kale) in a hydroponic ‘rail’ system or larger vine plants (tomatoes and cucumbers) in our ‘bucket’ system during the greenhouse growing season (September through May). Again supplies and necessary instruction are provided.

Specialty gardeners such as our orchid group also meet regularly and we are always looking for other ways to utilize the available space.

Greenhouse orientation training is offered the 1st Friday Oct – May and instructional clinics cover a variety of topics and are offered the 2nd Tuesday Oct – May. Please come visit us during office hours or at any of our scheduled meetings to learn how you can get involved.
